I’ve shared several videos and quotes from Sir Ken Robinson.
Robinson’s video Schools Kill Creativity is the most watched video on TED.
Another Robinson video, Changing Education Paradigms, is equally evocative.
What Happens When Ken Robinson’s Words are Put Into Practice?
This Is What Happens When A Kid Leaves Traditional Education:
Logan Laplante, a 13 year-old boy, was removed from the traditional education system by his parents to be home schooled instead. Logan’s parents were inspired by Ken Robinson’s videos.
Despite being ridiculed and harassed, Logan’s parents followed through and allowed him to tailor his education to his interests and also his style of learning, something traditional education could never offer.
Wired Shares a Radical New Teaching Method
Just a few months prior to Logan’s TEDx talk, Wired published an incredible article about a teacher in third world conditions who was tired of traditional education and took a risk that took a struggling student to be #1 in Math in the county of Mexico.

My Takeaway
If I needed any more reason to keep my children out of public school, these are strong nails in an industrial era coffin.
I heard a ridiculous comment on the radio from a teacher stating students spend more time on electronic devices than in the classroom which is impairing a students ability to take notes, which is key for learning.
WRONG!!!
You want a child to learn something, ask them to learn about something they care about, in a way they want to learn.
Ask a Kid about Fantasy
Ask a kid about their favorite fantasy character, or what color that person’s weapon or accessory is.
They didn’t take notes and yet they can tell you TONS of information. Why? Because they care, and they learn it in a way they want.
Stop Killing Our Kids. I won’t let it happen to mine.
