Kitchen of Death - Not Even a Hint

God gave me an awesome illustration today at lunch.

I looked down at my food, and despite my best intentions, I still picked out the worst food in the Columbia College cafeteria.

How did this happen?

Did I walk toward the cafeteria knowing I was going to pick out the food that would hurt me the most, make me gain weight, clog my arteries, and drag me down because it has little to no nutritional value.

No I didn’t!

So how did the food wind up on my plate?

When I walked into the cafeteria (rough diagram above) I walked straight to the salad bar to get the best, freshest food in the entire place.

But then, I decided to walk over to the outer edge JUST TO SEE WHAT WAS THERE TODAY!

Oh Man that Looks Good!

Just a little bit won’t hurt!

The next thing I know, my plate is filled with stuff that’s going to give me no energy for the rest of the day, make me feel worse, make me gain weight, and make me feel even more terrible about myself.

How many of you can relate to that?!

All I had to do, was walk into the cafeteria, fill my plate up completely with salad, vegetables and fruit, then walk out to enjoy the most delicious, and nutritious, meal possible.

How does this relate to our walk with God and what we’re consuming of this world?!

It is so easy to say, “I’ll just take a look.”

Or, “I’ll just try it this one time.”

And my favorite excuse, “A little bit won’t hurt me.”

That’s all the Devil needs to tear us apart, make us feel terrible about ourselves, and start separating us from God.

Not Even a Hint!

The Bible says in Ephesians 5:3:

“But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.”

God wants to fill us with His power, His peace, and His plan. But we are so full of the crap this world has to offer that we can’t stomach one more bite.

God is trying to clothe us in perfect white raiment, and cover us with the Whole Armor of God. But we are clinging to filthy rags which prevent us from being able to wear this perfect armor!

Next Time…

The next time I walk into the cafeteria, I will know not even to look at the surrounding areas.

Knowing what I know now, and how I am tempted by these disgusting foods, I will avoid them and go straight to what I know is good for me.

If I immediately fill my plate with only the good food, then there is absolutely no room left to put the disgusting stuff.
Our souls are one and the same!

Fill Yourself up First!

Fill yourself with the things of God first and the devil CANNOT fill you with the things of this world.

You will be able to walk into the vilest of places, the most sinful areas, deal with the most lost and evil people and maintain your Christ-like perfection!

Don’t wait to full up on God’s food.

Fill yourself immediately every morning, and don’t leave any room for this world’s wretched and disgusting offerings.
